Direct Reporting Line:
Head of Humanities

Emeris consolidates resources and expertise from IIE Varsity College, IIE MSA, IIE-Vega School, and IIE School of Hospitality & Service Management, with a unified approach ensuring a consistent standard of excellence in teaching, learning, and student support.

Emeris (Ruimsig) has a vacancy for a Part-Time Psychology and English Lecturer in the following modules:

Psychology Stream

  • Development Psychology
  • Abnormal Psychology
  • Psychopathology

English and Communication Science Stream

  • English
  • New Communication Technology

Key Performance Areas :

Lecturing (Including Student Support)

  • Delivers lectures across various modes of delivery as and when required.
  • Marks assessments and provides feedback to students in subjects lectured.
  • Leads and manages academic development and support for a specific programme and its students.
  • Conducts student support interventions where required.
  • Supports the Lecturers within the School of Social Sciences with improving their Research practice; this may include conducting peer reviews and internal moderation in the School of Social Sciences.
  • Acts as brand resource subject matter expert to The IIE on modules and programme of expertise.
  • Participates in lecturer orientations, briefings, forums, as well as any student orientations and programme information days or other initiatives/events that require support in the field of Research.

Research & Scholarship

  • Takes ownership for own research output targets to achieve the required A list recognition for the brand.
  • Performs the role of leader and mentor in research practice and output nationally by supporting other less experienced academics and promoting a positive culture of scholarship within their discipline and campus/team.
  • Drives and supports research output and the achievement of the annual research output targets at a national level within the Faculty of Humanities

Competencies required:

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage work and self proactively.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentorship skills.
  • Able to demonstrate a proven track record of effective teaching in subject area based on a reflective practice.
  • Able to demonstrate the ability to manage relationships with managers and staff effectively in terms of motivation, quality and performance.
  • Passion for customer service.
  • Experience in the use of technology to enhance learning is an added advantage.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:
  • Masters Degree (NQF9) in the relevant discipline.
  • PhD (NQF 10) qualification advantageous.

Minimum Work Experience Requirements:
  • Minimum of 3 years Teaching and Learning experience preferably in a tertiary environment.

Working Conditions: 
  • Please note that this is a Sessional Worker role.
  • Preference will be given to South African Citizens and Permanent Residents of South Africa in possession of proof of permanent resident status.
