We are looking to appoint a Teaching Experience Manager. 
NB. This position may be based at either our Durban, Cape Town or Waterfall (Midrand) National Office.

Overall Job Purpose: 

The National Teaching Experience (TE) Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for the Teaching Experience portfolio within the Faculty of Education across all Emeris campuses, ensuring the effective rollout, implementation, and continuous improvement of TE-related policies, procedures, and practices in alignment with national regulatory requirements. A core function of the role includes managing the national logistics of school and ECD centre placements by supporting campus TE Coordinators, overseeing student placement processes, and ensuring consistent monitoring, evaluation, and record-keeping for all WIL activities. The TE Manager ensures that TE processes are standardised across campuses, aligned with Faculty expectations, and compliant with minimum teacher-education qualification requirements. Furthermore, the role oversees the academic development of the Work-Integrated Learning (WIL)/Teaching Experience modules as the Academic Lead, ensuring the academic quality, coherence, and relevance of TE curriculum materials and assessments, and strengthening the overall quality and impact of Teaching Experience within the Faculty of Education.

Duties and Responsibilities:


Strategic Leadership & Management Of Wil

  • Develops and implements the strategic plan for Teaching Experience for the Faculty of Education in conjunction with the long-term vision of Emeris as a quality higher education provider.
  • Provides logistical management for the Work Integrated Learning (WIL) component of all undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of the Faculty of Education.
  • Reviews and implements changes to the curriculum of existing Teaching Experience modules on all School of Education programmes in collaboration with the Head of Programme team.
  • Develops and drives the implementation of relevant teaching and learning initiatives within the school-based WIL cognate area based on current industry and research trends.
  • Plans resource allocation for all aspects of running a successful WIL programme.
  • Supports and develops the national and campus Teaching Experience teams to ensure compliance with curriculum imperatives.
  • Actively teaches to serve as an exemplar in best teaching practice including scholarly activities such as setting and marking of assessments.
  • Reports on students’ learning analytics in terms of academic results, throughput rates, progression rates, graduation and completion rates on a national basis and ensures the appropriate interventions are implemented where necessary.

Academic Lead On Wil Modules

  • Manages the academic development of all WIL modules within the Faculty of Education, in consultation and collaboration with the Heads of Discipline and Module Leads.
  • Reviews, quality assures and implements the curriculum for all WIL modules within the Faculty of Education.
  • Acts as the interface between The IIE's Head of Faculty and The IIE's Varsity College Programme Operations Manager (POM) in relation to the Teaching Experience modules.
  • Identifies and supports the WIL module Heads of Discipline and Module Leads to ensure the academic quality, coherence, and relevance of TE curriculum materials and assessments
  • Assists in the identification of external moderators and the logistical requirements to implement the external moderation of all WIL modules in the Faculty of Education.
  • Performs a high level review of academic development for modules within the School of Education.
  • Continuously reviews and implements academic support processes as required to ensure the academic quality, coherence and relevance of the TE curriculum materials and assessments.
  • Participates in key Emeris governance structures and committees such as; the Programme Co-ordination Committee, Faculty Boards, Academic Planning & Development Committee, Examinations Committee, Brands Results, Postgraduate & Research committee etc.

Industry & Professional Management

  • Holds the Brand Ambassador role for Teaching Experience to external stakeholders in the profession and is responsible for partnership building.
  • Develops and maintains relationships within industry in the profession which includes industry placement of students, sponsorships and professional expertise.
  • Contributes towards and drives the Academic positioning of Emeris Faculty of Education professional training and development for the world of work.
  • Facilitates and is involved in professional and scholarly activities for the Faculty of Education e.g. Conference Papers and Higher Degree Studies.
  • Serves as the key liaison with professional and academic partners in the cognate area.
  • Represents Emeris on external partner faculty boards, committees and professional bodies.
  • Facilitates compliance with partners and provider's policies, regulations and procedures.
  • Provides thought leadership in terms of opinion pieces written and published in media to build academic credibility in the wider South African society/community.
Campus Support
  • Works with the campus Heads of Education and Teaching Experience Co-ordinators and supports the development of these roles across all campuses
  • Implements a formal communication structure within the Heads of Education, at a campus level through the Teaching Experience Co-ordinators.
  • Supports the campuses in the recruitment, selection, approval and development of the teaching team in the cognate area and approves all lecturer allocations per module.
  • Communicates with the campuses on new developments, recommendations and trends and facilitates troubleshooting.
  • Supports the campus in the operation of a bursary programme sponsored by industry where possible.
Minimum Educational Requirement:
  • A Master's Degree (NQF Level 9) in Education, preferably a PhD.
Minimum Work Requirement:
  • Minimum of 5 years’ Teaching and Learning experience (preferably in Higher Education teaching environment).
